The gift card settings control the way you set up gift card amounts, number formats and expiration periods. Gift cards are disabled by default. When you enable them, you allow users to buy and use gift cards to purchase items from your store.
The following prerequisites will be necessary to accomplish the goals of this article:

Administrating Gift Card Settings
You find these configurations by clicking the Admin menu item and then clicking Gift Card Settings.
You are then shown the Gift Card Settings page.
|Enable Gift Cards in Checkout||Check this box if you want to allow customers to use gift cards when they check out. By default, this is unchecked.|
|Expiration Period||Enter the number of months before a gift card expires. The default is 12 months.|
|Gift Card Number Format||Enter the format to use for gift card numbers. The format is explained on the right side of the settings view.|
|Format will Use Letters and Numbers||Check this box to use alphanumeric gift card numbers. When unchecked, gift card numbers will be completely numeric, without letters.|
|Minimum Amount||Enter the minimum amount for a gift card. If you're not sure what this value should be and/or haven't ever had a gift card program before, you should check with your level and accounting teams to help you determine what's best.|
|Maximum Amount||Enter the maximum amount for a gift card. If you're not sure what this value should be and/or haven't ever had a gift card program before, you should check with your level and accounting teams to help you determine what's best.|
|Predefined Amounts||Enter the amounts that can be used for a gift card purchase. Each amount is separated by a comma illustrated in the image above.|
When you check “Format will use letters and numbers,” you can use letters in place of numbers. Without this box checked, the generated gift card number is just 0-9 placements. When you add letters and numbers, the system generates letters and numbers. The option gives you additional gift card values without limiting yourself to just numeric values.
For instance, GIFT2121-2129-9843-4321 would be generated if no letters are included but GIFT2121-AF-9843-P321 could be generated when it the option is checked.
Click Save Changes to save the gift card settings.
