Overview
The Countries page is where you set up the countries and regions where your store services. Enabled countries will be available in address forms throughout the front and back ends. This feature is separate from the countries that will be found and managed on the CMS part of the site.
Requirements
The following prerequisites will be necessary to accomplish the goals of this article:
- Have access to your Hotcakes store administration
Getting Started
There are no prerequisites to follow along with this article.
Countries
Click the Settings menu item and then click Countries.
By default, Hotcakes enables all countries and regions.
The grid lists countries entered into the system.
Column | Description |
[no name] | This is a checkbox column. If the checkbox is checked, the country is enabled throughout Hotcakes. The checkbox in the header row will uncheck or check all countries at the same time. |
System Name | This is the common name that will be used to lookup and track the country by many processes in the API. |
ISO Code | The two-letter ISO code for the country. This is the same as the ISO Alpha 2 code. |
ISO Alpha 3 | The three-letter ISO code for the country. |
ISO Numeric | The numeric form of the country’s ISO code. |
Display Name | This is the name that's displayed to customers and merchants when they choose a country or see it in a listing. |
[no name] | This is an action column that allows you to edit or delete a country from the listing. The first icon allows you to edit the country and its regions in a new page. The second icon will permanently delete the country and it's regions. |
Any changes made on this page must be saved by clicking the Save Changes button at the bottom of the page.
Editing a Country
If you're editing a country, you either chose to edit an existing country, or you clicked the Add Country button in the left panel to add a new country.
You'll see the edit country view, with a form, followed by a grid listing of regions, depending on the country being edited.
You can edit the country settings and click Save Changes to save the updates.
Setting | Description |
System Name | This is the common name that will be used to lookup and track the country by many processes in the API. |
ISO Code | The two-letter ISO code for the country. This is the same as the ISO Alpha 2 code. |
ISO Alpha 3 | The three-letter ISO code for the country. |
ISO Numeric | The numeric form of the country’s ISO code. |
Display Name | This is the name that's displayed to customers and merchants when they choose a country or see it in a listing. |
Regions
You'll see a listing of regions beneath many countries, when you begin editing one, as shown above. Regardless to whether you already see regions or not, you can add new regions for any country. You can also edit any specific region once it exists.
Column | Description |
Abbreviation | You should enter the commonly accepted or standardized abbreviation for the region, to ensure that your customers will understand it. |
System Name | This is the common name that will be used to lookup and track the region by many processes in the API. |
Display Name | This is the name that's displayed to customers and merchants when they choose a region or see it in a listing. |
[no name] | This is an action column that allows you to edit or delete a region from the listing. The first icon allows you to edit the region in a popup. The second icon will permanently delete the region. |
Editing a Region
You will be able to add a region by clicking the "Add Region" button in the left panel, when viewing the edit country page.
Otherwise, you'll be seeing the popup below by having clicked the edit icon next to an existing country. Enter the region information and click the "Update" button to add or update the region.
